🎨"2021 Family Art Therapy Week 17" PATIENCE/PACIENCIA with Ms. Mandi, BSW🎨

2021- FAMILY ART-THERAPY WEEK 15

This weeks projects are going to be related to the Positive Action Word of the Week- PATIENCE

-the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering

without getting angry or upset.

Your projects can be uploaded and emailed to me at: amanda.knepper@k12.wv.us OR amanda@morganpartnership.org

Please check the links on PositiveValuesNetwork.com for other art therapy projects and Positive Action videos.

Monday- Project: Patience with Sun Art

Materials: The most important thing to remember when doing this project is that the sun must be out and shining bright. You will need construction paper (dark colors), and items to place on the paper. Ask your family what items they would like to use, place them onto the paper together in a sunny place in your yard or on your porch. It may take the sun several hours do its job to create your artwork. After waiting, you will pick up one of the items, see if the shadow has been left on the paper. If not, place the item back onto the paper in the same place and give it more time.

Once the sun has done its job, and created your artwork, you may put your items away and take your papers inside. Talk with your family about why it took so long to create this project, was it worth the wait, did you enjoy it, do you think you should have given it more time? The skill of patience was tested with this project because you can not rush the sun.

There are several pictures below to show what this project should resemble when you are finished.

Tuesday- Project: Patience with Egg Art and Growing Plants/Flowers

Materials: you will need eggshells as shown below in the pictures, egg crates, things to decorate your eggshells, a little bit of planting soil and some seeds (either vegetable or flower seeds). Place the end project into a well-lit room or window where sunlight will be present.

Each member of the family will need eggshells to decorate, materials to decorate, dirt and seeds to plant. This project is a process to complete. You will need to make a small hole in the top of each of your eggshells and shake out the egg contents into a bowl. (place them in the fridge for later use). You will need to gently wash out the inside of the eggshells and let them dry. Then you will want to gently decorate the outside of your eggshell with markers, or as shown below, making faces. Place the decorated eggshells into the crate. Each member of the family should fill a few shells about 3⁄4 full of planting soil, then place a few seeds into the dirt about 1⁄2 way into the dirt using your fingertip. You will water the dirt lightly. It will take several days of watching and waiting for your seeds to sprout and grow. When your plants start to gain size and become full in the eggshells, you can place your eggshells into a larger pot or the ground to encourage growth. This process will build skills needed for patience. The result will be beautiful and worth it!! You and your family can enjoy the veggies or enjoy viewing the beautiful flowers you planted.

Remember: It takes Time and Patience to Grow!

Wednesday- Project: Family Art Mosaics

Materials: You will need a canvas or heavy paper, painters tape or electrical tape, paints of different colors, and brushes. You can even use sponges and things to decorate the sections if you would like. (a cup of water to wash your brushes out)

Each member of your family should have a canvas or heavy paper, and the materials to complete a picture. You will take the tape and use pieces to create sections that you will paint. You can create a picture, (such as the peacock picture below), or a design that is random. You will paint each section, let it dry and paint over the section again if needed. Once the paint is about 1⁄2 dry, you will remove the tape from your picture. Your family can then display the pictures as a grouping together, or separately in your home.

Talk with your family about why each step is important. Why was it important to wait for the paint to start drying to remove the tape but not wait until it was fully dry? Did you have any issues with removing the tape or did it work properly?

Thursday- Project: Discovering your Favorite Artist Through Research and Patience

Materials: Today you will need a way to research or gather information to choose your favorite artist. You can use your cell phone, a computer, the library, textbooks, magazines or whatever you have access to. You and your family will need to sit together and research artists. You will need heavy paper, or a canvas, paints, brushes and water to wash your brushes out.

You will research artists and choose your favorite, then choose a painting by that artist that you like the most. Your family will try to replicate this artists work as close as you can.

Your family can discuss why you chose the artist that you chose, and why you liked the artwork you chose. What does it mean or represent to your family? Do you like the colors, texture, image? What would you change if you had created the image on your own? And why?

Remember: It takes Time and Patience to become successful!

Friday- Project: Waiting for the Prize!

Materials: You will need paper, pencil, something to color with, and your family to brainstorm ideas. You can even use watercolors if you like. Be creative and use your imagination! There are no rules with this project.

With your family, you will brainstorm to think about animals that take patience to come into the world. I have given a few examples below. You and your family will draw/color the stages and then talk about why patience is so important. What would happen if patience were not given for these animals to grow properly? What would happen if we did not have these animals any longer?

🎨"2021 Family Art Therapy Week 11: CARING and Self Care" with Ms. Mandi, BSW🎨

2021- FAMILY ART-THERAPY WEEK 11

This weeks projects are going to be related to the Positive Action Word of the Week- CARING

Your projects can be uploaded and emailed to me at: amanda.knepper@k12.wv.us OR amanda@morganpartnership.org

Please check the links on PositiveValuesNetwork.com for other art therapy projects and Positive Action videos.

Monday- Project: Self-Care

Today we are going to start out our week by practicing Self-Care techniques. Self-care activities are anything that involves you doing something you enjoy, for yourself. This can include taking a nature walk, exercising, baking if you enjoy that, cooking a new recipe, drawing/coloring, going to a salon to get your hair or nails done, going shopping for a new outfit, taking a few minutes for quiet time to refocus, hanging out with friends, meditation, yoga, listening to music, or watching a movie or show you really like. Self-care is important for a healthy mind and body. It helps to decrease your stress level and increase your overall wellbeing and happiness. Self-care is critical to achieve optimum health.

Today, your family will choose a few things to do together that are considered self-care strategies. Be sure to talk with your family and share things that you enjoy about your special time together. If your family chooses to go on a nature walk, you can also make it fun by creating a “treasure hunt” activity. Write down a few things that you think you will see on your walk and then check them off when you do. If you do not see all the items on your list, you can discuss why maybe they weren’t seen, or weren’t in the area when you took your walk.

Tuesday- Project: Exploring Texture by Coloring

Today your family is going to have fun with coloring. You can choose to use colored pencils, markers or crayons. You can even use watercolors if you would like to go that route. Self-care can be achieved through so many aspects of art. You will need your family members to do this project, because once you have completed your masterpiece, you will gift it to someone special. You can have an open discussion with your family members about self-care and why activities such as these are important for your mind, body and spirit. You can even choose to take a drive to a local nursing home and give some of the residents your pictures to display in their rooms. (Please call ahead to follow COVID rules if you decide you would like to do that).

Wednesday- Project: Painted Salt with Watercolors

Today we will be using paper, glue, salt, a small paintbrush and watercolors or food coloring. Each member of your family will need these items to create their project. You will create your design by outlining your picture with glue. Then you will cover your glue with salt and let dry for a bit. (please be sure to shake off the excess after it dries). You will then use a paintbrush, place it into the watercolor gently and drop small amounts of watercolor onto the salt design, which will change the color of the salt. You will repeat this process until you complete your project. Remember to lay this project on a flat surface for several hours to dry. Once dry your family members can display them in your home.

Thursday- Project: Family Snowman Making with Teamwork

Today you will be working collaboratively with your family members to make a snowman. You can use paper, paint, buttons, cotton balls, ribbon, pretzel sticks, paper plates, etc. Brainstorm with your family and talk about how you would like to make your family’s snowman. The idea is to work as a team to create this project. When you have your snowman completed, you can display him/her in your home.

Attached are a few examples of how you can make a snowman with art supplies.

Friday- Project: Snow Volcano

Your family will be using snow to make a volcano!!! This is so much fun and so neat to watch. You will need: baking soda, dish liquid, food coloring, vinegar, a spoon, snow and a container. Please be sure to include each family member. Attached are a few pictures to show how to do this activity. Have a good time with this. You can repeat it several times with different colors of food coloring.

SEND PROJECT PICTURES TO: amanda@morganpartnership.org 😊 OR Amanda.knepper@k12.wv.us

Please Access PositiveValuesNetwork.com for more links, videos, and art projects.

I hope you have a great weekend!! Enjoy the SNOW!! If you have a fun idea, please let me know so that I can incorporate them into another fun activity for your family!

Thank you for your participation, Ms. Mandi
