π¨"2021 Family Art Therapy Week 2"π¨
A little history about Art Therapy: Art Therapy was discovered by a British Artist, Adrian Hill in 1942, while she was recovering from tuberculosis.
As 2020 comes to a close and we enter 2021 let’s try to THINK of how far we have come, the SUCCESSES we have made, and the DREAMS that have come true. We will make New Year’s resolutions and THINK about what we are THANKFUL for. These activities are to help us regroup as a family and work together while having fun. The materials needed to create these activities most households will have but if you do not and would like to participate, please reach out to Ms. Mandi and she will ensure that you have what you need in time for the activities. I have included pictures of examples to give a clear idea of each project so you have a better understanding in case my directions aren’t very clear, but please feel free to be as CREATIVE as you’d like, as this is your family’s artwork. Let your IMAGINIATION run wild!!
Monday- Today we will be creating a LOVE quilt with our families. You will need paper, construction paper, markers, crayons, or whatever your family chooses to use to create your quilt. Brainstorm together to come up with a list of things you LOVE. Have one person in your family draw the heart in the center of your page, someone else can create the sections and someone else can label them. Together you can decorate your sections. Finally, when your quilt is completed, you can look at it together to see what is most important to each of you and what makes your family special. (below are some ideas.)
(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO ME AT amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT and please feel free to comment what worked and what didn’t work for your family.) π"#$%
Tuesday- Today we are going to make a rainbow of emotions by choosing colors that express the emotions of your year 2020. I would like for you to choose at least 5 colors and then label them with an emotion of your choice. THINK about the POSITIVE experiences your family has had, the GIFTS you’ve been given, the CHALLENGES you’ve had, and the DECISIONS your family has made throughout the year. How did this make you feel? How did you feel about virtual school? You can include all of those feelings in your rainbow. Each person in your family will need materials to create a rainbow. You will need paper of different colors, or you can color your paper with markers or crayons. You will need glue, and scissors or you can carefully tear your paper as shown below.

Wednesday- Today we will be creating Worry Monsters. Each member of your family will need paper and something to color with. You will create your Monster, name him/her and then label it with words that you worry about: for example- grades, chores, what others think of you, the weather, your family and friends, the virus, etc. Your monster can have several labels. Once you are finished with your creation, tear it up. Make a pile with all of your family members Worry Monsters. Then you can talk with your family about the things you wrote, the things that you worry and stress about. You can either burn the papers, or throw them away. (if you do burn them, let an adult do that.) Finally, write down as a family how you feel after the activity. Do you feel the same, different, better, worse?
(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) π"#$%
Thursday- Today we are creating positivity buckets. Each family member will create a bucket by following the directions that are listed below. Then each person will need to make 15-20 raindrops. Each raindrop will be labeled with something positive you will do for your family or a member of your family: Give someone a hug, take out the trash, wash the dishes, playing with a sibling, help with house chores, feed the animals, fold clothes, etc. The goal is to over-flow your bucket with love for your family. Each raindrop that you choose and complete then goes into your bucket. Each day, every member of the family will choose a raindrop from one other members bucket. The member that created the bucket will do that chore/task. Be CREATIVE with your buckets and make them fit your family.
(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) π"#$%
Friday- Today we are making Hands of Future Goals. Each member of the family will need paper, a pencil, markers, crayons, and to brainstorm a list of goals for their future. Trace your hand (one hand) onto the paper. Then, choose a way to decorate your hand while using goals for your future, as pictured below. You can be CREATIVE as your goals are UNIQUE to you!! Discuss your drawings with the members of your family.

"2021 Family Art Therapy Week 1" with Ms Mandi, BSW
“2021- FAMILY ART-THERAPY WEEK 1”
A little history about Art Therapy: Art Therapy was discovered by a British Artist, Adrian Hill in 1942, while she was recovering from tuberculosis.
We are resilient creatures and should always keep that in mind. With COVID as a current worldwide pandemic we should practice SAFETY and RESPONSIBILITY by wearing masks and washing hands often. This will help us to protect our family and friends.
Think about ways you/your family can create new and fun ways to express yourselves. BE UNIQUE!!
Monday- Today we are going to use a box or plastic container with a lid to make a time capsule. You will need things to decorate this box: markers, stickers, colored paper, glue, glitter, crayons- anything your family would like to use. There are no limitations. Once you have your box decorated sit it to the side. Brainstorm with your family and choose a few mementoes, things that are VALUABLE to you or they can be your TREASURES: special pictures that you have copies of, letters, drawings, little stones that are special, coins, sea- shells, anything your family wants to add. Remember to be RESPECTFUL of your family members and their special items they’ve chosen. Lastly, complete the time capsule worksheet and put that inside the box. Each member of the family can complete one as your goals will all be different. On New Years of 2022 you can open the box and read your letters. See how much you’ve changed as a family and as a person. What goals have you accomplished? What CHALLENGES have you conquered? Did you treat others with KINDNESS??
Each time capsule will be UNIQUE to your family and SPECIALLY MADE BY YOU!!
(Attached is the Time Capsule Worksheet- Note: if you can’t print the sheet, feel free to use notebook paper with the questions or you can create questions with your family as well.)
(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO ME AT amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT and please feel free to comment what worked and what didn’t work for your family.) π"#$%
Tuesday- Today we are going to use water color and music to create a painting. If you do not have watercolors you can open an old marker and put it in water, let it sit for a while and it will dye the water, or you can use food coloring to dye the water. If you do not have a small paint brush you can use a Q-tip or a straw.
Have your family choose a song or a few songs to play while you are creating this project. You can repeat this with different music to see if your painting styles change with the difference in music.
Use your IMAGINATION while being CREATIVE: you can cut out a shape, animal, something you like/random, a letter or number etc. Lay that shape on the paper (as shown below) and then decorate around that shape. You can draw a shape or trace your hand. Place spots of watercolor around your image or on your paper and use your breath to blow the watercolor to create your image.
Each creation will be UNIQUE so please do not try to copy a picture you see. Let your TALENT show through in your individual artwork.

Wednesday- We will be using colored paper, or white paper, crayons, markers, glue, glitter, and scissors. It’s okay if you don’t have all of the supplies: paper and scissors are most important.
We will be creating paper snowflakes today!!! They are perfect for the Winter season. Attached is a picture to show how to fold your paper and where to cut to create your snowflakes. You can make several and choose to decorate as you wish. Be CREATIVE and use your IMAGINATION!
How much snow are you wishing for this year?? Do you like to build snowmen? Do you go sledding and have snowball fights?

Thursday- Today (with your parent’s permission) we will be creating a picture collage. Using pictures from 2020 and team-work from your family cut out pictures and create a collage.
You will need a sheet of heavy paper or piece of cardboard, scissors, glue and pictures (make sure you have copies.) You can also add important words to your collage as well.
(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) π"#$%
Friday- Today we will be making word art while using your name and Positive Action words: The words will connect and link together like a crossword puzzle. You can choose to use your last name too. Be CREATIVE!
Some of the Positive Actions words are: Positive, Safety, Responsible, Honesty, Unique, Valuable, Happiness, Success, Treasure, Dreams, Sportsmanship, Talent, Thankful, Exercise, Wellness, Intellectual, Creativity, Kindness, Caring, Respect, Nice and the Golden Rule
