🎨"2021 Family Art Therapy Week 20" GOLDEN RULE, Values/REGALA de ORO, Valores with Ms. Mandi, BSW🎨
“2021- FAMILY ART-THERAPY WEEK 15”
This week’s projects are going to be related to the Positive Action Word of the Week- GOLDEN RULE
*Treating others as you want to be treated*Your projects can be uploaded and emailed to me at: amanda.knepper@k12.wv.us OR amanda@morganpartnership.org
Please check the links on PositiveValuesNetwork.com for other art therapy projects and Positive Action videos.
Monday- Project: RESPECT FOR ANIMALS
Materials: Today you will need an aluminum can, tape (any color), scissors, paint if you would like to paint designs, paint brushes, ribbon, and bird seed. Your family members should each create a feeder to hang in your yard as a source of food for wildlife. Squirrels also like to eat seed.
Each member of your family will need a can to make this project. (Safety Note: have an adult cut the can as shown and tape around the sharp edge so no one gets cut), then you will either use decorative tape (washi tape) or you can also paint the can to create a design. Then, you will tie a ribbon through the center (as shown) so you can hang your bird feeder. Lastly, you will fill the can 1⁄2 way.
(You can also use a paper towel roll or a toilet paper roll, however, when it rains, they become wet and can tear.)
Remember: Respect for others also applies to animals. We treat people, animals and things with respect to follow the GOLDEN RULE. How does feeding wildlife show respect?
Tuesday- RESPECTING OUR SERVICE MEN & WOMEN
Materials: You can choose to use the template provided to write a letter, draw a picture, or
you can choose one of the other options: template, pencil, crayons, paints, brushes, etc. Please feel free to create your own project with your family if you would like.
Once your family has chosen and completed a special project, please bring it to your school. Give them to the counselor or social worker and I will collect them to make sure the Veterans of our community and neighboring areas receive them. This is a wonderful way to show your support for the ones that protect and serve our country.
How does it make you/your family feel when someone treats you with respect? How does it make you feel when someone does something special for you? Have a conversation with your family about this.
Wednesday- POSTER: WHAT DOES THE GOLDEN RULE MEAN TO YOU? Materials: Posterboard, construction paper, markers, crayons, pencil, eraser, paints or
(whatever your family may want to use to create your poster).
With your family, you will be creating a poster to show what the GOLDEN RULE means to your family. There are a few ideas attached below but please feel free to use your imagination with this project.
You will brainstorm with your family to think of a theme for this poster. What would you like to include and why? Your poster should show the people and things that you treat with respect, the things that are important to you and even symbols to represent respect and kindness to your family.
Thursday- Project: “JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE SPECIAL TO ME”
Materials: Today is a free art day, which means you can create anything that you would
like, as long as, it’s made for someone special to you.
Think about the person in your life that means the most to you. Then, think of things that make them happy: colors, signs, flowers, animals, shapes, texture etc. You and your family are going to work on this project together. You will think of one person that has impacted your lives, make a project for them and then give it to them. After you have gifted your project to your special person, talk with your family about the reaction the person had and why you think you got that reaction. Was the person happy, did the person cry, did they thank you? How do nice deeds make others feel? How do you feel when someone makes you something special?
This can be a painting, drawing, rock art, poem, story with pictures, water coloring, or something you create out of items like a collage.
Friday- TREATING OTHERS HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED: KINDNESS
The Golden Rule is very important because when we treat each other with kindness, respect and care it creates a positive atmosphere which promotes serotonin to be released in the brain, which improves your mental health.
As we have learned through Positive Actions, the term the “GOLDEN RULE” wraps many of our terms into one: KINDNESS, CARING, HUMILITY, RESPECT and many more. The Golden Rule is a broad term for how we should treat others all the time. Try to remember that we all have feelings that should be cared for.
Materials: Paper of different colors, scissors, glue, a marker and your family members. If you do not have these materials, there is a template you can print and color for this activity.
Each member will need these materials or the template to create their own flower. You will decide how many petals you would like to cut out. You will brainstorm: first your center will need a title which will be something related to the Golden Rule: Kindness, Caring, Respect etc. The petals are going to be things/ways, that you show that action to others: holding the door for someone, taking out the trash, saying nice things, complimenting someone, etc.
When you have completed your flower, you can choose someone you care about to give your project to. This will show them that you care. 😊
SEND PROJECT PICTURES TO: amanda@morganpartnership.org 😊 OR Amanda.knepper@k12.wv.usPlease Access PositiveValuesNetwork.com for more links, videos, and art projects.
I hope you have a great weekend!! If you have a fun idea, please let me know so that I can incorporate them into another fun activity for your family!
Thank you for your participation, Ms. Mandi Knepper, MSW-intern

Teacher Talkin' Tuesdays with ERIC LYDA

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

and discuss important student issues.

Warm Springs Intermediate School!

Welcome back to your school community! I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, April 24th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!
As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other. Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.
Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott where we will get to meet a dad, a lawyer, and a community advocate, Mr. Eric Lyda! Mr. Lyda is also a former 2007 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School who went to West Virginia University to study law. He shares a very important Positive Action that he sees every day in our community...working together to be POSITIVE! Look!
That was "PAW"some! Thank you, Mr. Lyda, for telling us about your awesome POSITIVE ACTIONS, following the GOLDEN RULE! See? Adults can also use that "good ole golden rule" too!As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other. Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up. When we learn more about our community, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.
So, guess what that means?! Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too! For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates. It is "Talk It Out Time!" Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our selves.
Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week. I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself! Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us! Or, we may be completely and crazily different. And, guess what?!...That is OK! It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.
So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready? Here is our discovery question:
"What is favorite summer activity?"
Wait, that's not so hard, right? If so, tell us what is your favorite summer activity,... and why.
I'll go first. Hi! My name is Mrs. Hott. My favorite summer activity is swimming. It is my favorite because I love to be outside and I do not love to be hot! So, if I can go swimming, I can stay outside AND keep cool and refreshed. Look...here is a picture of our pool at sunset with Dannypoo and friends. It was his 60th birthday party..... :-)
Pretty awesome, right? Now, it's YOUR turn! When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us about YOUR favorite summer activity. Let's discover...
That was awesome too! You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself. It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.
To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher. Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better? What is new this week you can tell your teacher? For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive! Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.
In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page. Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week. Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down. And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, or even Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"
Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person! It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community. "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....
YOU!

Friendships that INCLUDE ... Raising the Roof
...on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!
Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!
I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, April 5th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):
"when two, or more, people get along with mutual respect, support and trust for each other's likes and differences"
FRIENDSHIP. What does "FRIENDSHIP" look like? When children are included in activities, they feel part of a caring community. When YOU INCLUDE someone else, YOU are being a good friend to others. This is a positive action. Watch this video:
FRIENDSHIP
Tell your teacher what you think the word "FRIENDSHIP" means.
I LOVE this video! Why? Because Mrs. Hott was typically the last person picked to play sports! Sure! My friends always were ready for me to help them with school; but when it came to sports, "shorty" (Mrs. Hott) was not the first friend on anyone's list.
But, that's ok! I may have been a little late trying out my athletic abilities, (like 49 when I began to train for a half marathon!), but I always tried to encourage others to play games with us too.
Think of a time when you felt "left out." How did this make you feel? (sad, angry...) Remember this feeling, so if you ever see someone alone, maybe during recess, try to be a friend today and invite them to play along too!
To INCLUDE others by playing with them, sharing ourselves, offering a smile, helping when needed is a POSITIVE ACTION. Including people in your every day activities is a beautiful way to express that "good ole GOLDEN RULE" too! You INCLUDE others because it feels good when YOU are INCLUDED, right?!?

Including people in your every day activities is a beautiful way to express that "good ole GOLDEN RULE" too! You INCLUDE others because it feels good when YOU are INCLUDED, right?!?
And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...
YOU!

Warm Springs Intermediate School
I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 22nd! Today, we have a special GIFT! Ms. Sheima and I have discovered some valuable treasures at Warm Springs Intermediate School....YOU! And, since it is a Positive Action to GIVE and SHARE, we have a special Fun Friday treat for our vlogcast today, a
Here is today's video vlogcast:
Holiday "E" Card
from WSIS Positive Action Cougars!
Here is today's video vlogcast:
Remember this:
YOU can do a POSITIVE ACTION today! You ALL are unique and wonderfully made; so, share YOUR positive actions with someone - especially during this holiday season! And guess what....it doesn't cost a dime! You don't need money to give a gift to someone else. Want to know what gift YOU can give?.... you can do a POSITIVE ACTION! Show someone you care with a something as simple as a smile, a respectful attitude, a gesture of gratitude, or being a caring friend!
It's free, a positive action,....and, it is contagious! So, start right now to change the world by making positive choices for your physical and intellectual well-being AND your example will encourage others, impress friends and classmates, and launch you into a positive future!
I promise!
So, tell your teacher what positive action or "GIFT" you will share during the holidays. Think of someone to say "Happy Holidays" to in your home, school, or community. Sharing a happy greeting is a positive action. Make a special card from you. Draw them a picture. Fold another origami heart. (Instructions are here: Make a Paper Heart Then Share YOUR Gift)
Next, want to know what my favorite gift is this season....each.of.YOU!
Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule; so, Mrs. Hott wants you to remember that over holiday break, we need to treat others kindly and with respect.
Changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....
YOU!
(close with Golden Rule and sing along when ready!)
