2021- FAMILY ART-THERAPY WEEK 20This weeks projects are going to be related to the Positive

Action Word of the Week-

An intense feeling of deep affection for something or

someone.

Your projects can be uploaded and emailed to me at: amanda.knepper@k12.wv.us OR amanda@morganpartnership.org

Please check the links on PositiveValuesNetwork.com for other art therapy projects and Positive Action videos.

There are many ways to show love. You can show love by doing nice things for a person, you can give them a hug, draw a picture for them, say kind and caring words. You can show love to your pet by giving them treats, taking them for a walk or giving them a bath. When you show acts of kindness, this is also a way of expressing love.

There are 5 Love Languages which consist of: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Quality Time, Gift Giving and Physical Touch. We are going to incorporate these into this week’s lessons.

Monday- Project: Love Through Words of Affirmation

Materials: You will need your family, paper and pencil to take notes, a small wooden board, small nails, hammer, thread or yarn of different colors. You will need to choose someone special to your family that will be receiving this project.

Showing love in this manner can look like simple compliments to someone else. Thank you for your help this evening.” “You look very nice today with your new haircut.” “Thank you for being a wonderful friend. These are just a few examples of showing love through words of affirmation.

Self-Love Through Words of Affirmation: can also be expressed in forms of positive self- talk, journaling and daily affirmations. I did a really good job today on my spelling test.” “I really like the way I look today. These are a few examples of positive self-talk.

Today, you and your family will be creating a project to give to someone else. You will see their expression and their sense of appreciation towards you and your family for your gifts. How did they respond? Were they appreciative? Did they compliment your gift? Overall, how did this make you feel? Talk openly with your family about the project, and the result.

There are a few pictures attached below to show the project we will be creating. You will each take a part of this project.

  1. 1)  You will need to trace, in pencil, the heart on your board.

  2. 2)  Someone else will use a hammer and place the small nails along the traced heart

    line.

  3. 3)  Someone else will start stringing the yarn from one nail to another and this step will

be repeated many times until the shape of a heart appears. Everyone can take turns

with this step until it is complete.

  4. 4)  Once complete, your family will take this project to your special person! πŸ˜‰ Tell

them why you chose them to receive your artwork.

Tuesday- Love Through Acts of Service
Materials: Jar, popsicle sticks (10 for each jar), markers, and decorations for your jars

This is a love language that takes the burden away from someone else. This can be expressed in ways such as doing chores around the house, making dinner for your family, taking the dog for a walk or holding the door for someone. This can also be expressed by going out as a family.

Each member of the family will create a jar with 10 popsicle sticks. First, you will decorate your jar with your name and stickers. Then, you will list a chore on each popsicle stick and decorate your sticks. Place them into your jar. Once daily, choose one stick, and do that chore to help your family out. Each member of the family should do this daily to emphasize teamwork and encourage working as a family to get things accomplished.

You can do an extra jar for when you are bored. You can make these sticks something fun for the family to do together such as: shopping, movie night, baking, gardening, game night etc.

Self-Love Language Through Acts of Service: can also be expressed as therapy for yourself, acts of kindness, making a schedule to keep tasks organized, and cleaning your room.

Wednesday- Love Expressed Through Quality Time

Materials: You will need paper, the template (or create a template) for your comic strip,

pencils, colored pencils and you will need to talk with your family to complete this project.

Spending time together is not always quality time. Sometimes we are preoccupied with game systems, cell phones, social media and other forms of distractions that tend to occur in our lives. Quality time is when you are engaging with your family and holding conversations or doing things together that you all enjoy (without the distractions).

Today, we will be making comics of things you enjoy doing with your family. This can be anything from cooking, shopping, reading, family game night etc. Use your imagination to create this comic strip. Each member of the family should participate in completing this project. Take turns with ideas, drawing, and writing. There are 2 blank templates attached for your use, or you can create your own template.

Self-Love Language: This love language can be expressed as spending time alone to do your favorite hobbies, shopping, meditation, yoga, going out to eat alone, or just relaxing.

Thursday- Love Through Gift Giving

Materials: Large sheet of white paper, colored sheets of paper cut into thin strips to roll, glue, and sequins or decorations of your choice. You will need to choose someone in your family that will receive this project when it is complete.

Love through gift giving are things that reflect your thoughtfulness and effort. If your family member and you have had an argument, you can write an apology note. You can make birthdays, anniversaries and special days even more special with favorite surprises and treats.

Self-Love Through Gift Giving: This can be expressed through treating yourself by purchasing things that make you happy: craft supplies, trips, new outfit, haircut, investing in yourself.

For this activity you will be making rolled paper hearts to give to someone in your family. You can use any colors you would like and create your heart however you would like. Use your imagination to make spirals, curls and extras.

Friday- Love Through Physical Touch

Materials: you will need your family members and the templates that are attached to this lesson. Today is for practicing mindfulness, relaxation skills, proper breathing techniques, and yoga positioning.

You will start out by reviewing the Yoga templates attached. You will take some time with your family to practice the positions and relax your body and mind. You will need a quiet space, free of distractions. Slowly go through the poses as they are numbered. You can repeat them as many times as you would like.

NOTE: There are Yoga videos created by Lacee Kidwell on PositiveValuesNetwork.com that you can watch and do with her.

Love through physical touch can be expressed by hugs, hand holding, cheek kisses or sitting together to watch a movie.

Self-Love through Physical Touch- This can be expressed in ways such as getting a massage, going to the spa, swimming, stretching, exercising, physical activity, or yoga. These are things that you enjoy doing and helps you to focus on your physical being.
