Personal Power on Oct. 3, 2019, Raise the Roof....

on student assets!

Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

NEWS FLASH ** News FLASH ** NEwS FLASH!
Thank you Christopher and Caden Groves for sharing your unique art with our students!  Be sure to stop by the library display case at WSIS to see the 100+ year old craft of wooden bowl making.

From a raw block of cedar, to a beautiful wooden bowl!  Stay tuned for the Empty Bowls event in Nov!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, October 3, 2019! As we continue our Cougar Crawl around Warm Springs Intermediate School, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action thought:

PERSONAL POWER

Tell your teacher what you think the words "PERSONAL POWER" mean.
* "when children feel like they have influence over his or her life"
* "having the ability to control your outcome by making positive choices and life decisions"

Having personal power.  What does that look like?  When we "believe" in ourself, we can achieve difficult challenges.  Each of YOU have the power to accomplish PAWsome things...from school work to goals...when you BELIEVE you can do it!  Like we saw yesterday, it takes HARD WORK!  And when we reach the finish line, we feel HAPPINESS.

Watch today's video...

Now, let's talk!  This runner had the ability to control his outcome!  He made a positive choice to "finish the race"!  When we choose positive actions, we have PERSONAL POWER over our own outcomes too!  Maybe a race, or maybe in school work, it is your choice to finish your work, which helps us succeed.  First, tell your teacher what happened in this video. Then, answer these questions:
1)  What person had a positive thought?

2)  Which person did a positive action?

3)  Who has positive feelings at the end of this video?

4)  Where you surprised?  Why?

5)  Talk about the HARD WORK you saw in this video.

6)  Do you see how with HARD WORK and BELIEVING in yourself, YOU can have personal power to succeed?  It happened in this video, didn't it?  Tell your teacher something YOU want to work hard at doing.

Cougars that have PERSONAL POWER
can change the world!

Decisions - Raise the Roof

...on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 1st! Last night, a very unique event occurred.  Did YOU see it? There was a full moon, a total lynar eclipse, a blue moon, and a supermoon all in one night.  This only occurs every 150 years!  Wow... so, today's vlogcast features a special character, the moon, with a positive little boy.  As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

DECISIONS

Tell your teacher what you think the word "DECISION" means.
"a conclusion or resolution that is reached after consideration or thought about the situation"

DECISIONS.  What do "decisions" look like?  Well....Today's community vlogcasts takes a look at student planning and decision making by watching a character faced with conflicting influences yet makes positive choices that contribute to his tiny community. When a student thinks about making positive decisions and is ususally happy with the results of his or her outcome, that is raising your developmental asset #32 - for positive PLANNING AND DECISION MAKING.
Watch this video, then talk about the several decisions that face the little boy:

Let's talk about it!
What DECISIONS did the young boy face in this video?  Raise your hand when you think of a decision you saw.
(possible answers:  how to wear the hat, what to do while waiting, which tool to use, etc.)
Who influenced the choices the boy made?
(possible answers: the old man, and the large dad, etc)

Let's think about it!
Every day, you are also faced with DECISIONS.
1) In conversation, you decide, or choose, which words to use.  Think about your words before you talk and DECIDE if your word selection is positive.
2) In actions, you decide, or choose, whether to be positive.
Think about what Your decisions will reflect not only your character today, but also generate good feelings that will help you grow up to be a positive student.
Only YOU can CHOOSE to make positive DECISION.

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions, and DECISIONS! start with...
YOU!

WSIS Cougars that make positive DECISIONS
can change the world!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 1st! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Mr. Larry Omps!

Have you ever driven by the Country Inn in downtown Berkeley Springs?  Maybe you have eaten there or know someone who works in the restaurant?  Well....Mr. Omps and his family are the owners of this landmark in Morgan County!  And, we found him in the lobby one day when he had just returned from vacation.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott:

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

To hope.  What does "hope" look like?  Watch this video:

Let's talk about it!  What did you see in this video that felt like "HOPE" to you?

Think about something you HOPE will happen at school today.  Tell each other a positive action that will you help you achieve this.

Now, think about something you HOPE will happen we you return home tonight?  Tell each other a positive action that will help you achieve this too!

Finally, what is something you HOPE to become when you grow up.  Tell a friend a positive action that will help you.

Purpose - 9/14/17 Raising the Roof

on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Sept. 14th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

PURPOSE

Tell your teacher what you think the word "PURPOSE" means.
"the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists"

Purpose.  What does "purpose" look like?  Watch this video:

This stirring anthem from Garth Brooks combined with poignant images from around our planet encourages, inspires and challenges each one of us to get involved with people’s needs both close to home and around the world. “Do Your Part” is a personal appeal to make a difference in our communities at a time of great need, which is also a time of opportunity.

Each student in this school is unique, right?  That means that each one of YOU have a unique PURPOSE for your life.  And, by participating in Positive Actions, it helps us all to discover those positive thoughts, which leads to actions, and good feelings about why we are here and at school!

Think about a positive PURPOSE you have here at school and share this with your teacher. (to try our best, to help others) How can you "do your part" to have a great Community of Cougars?

Now, think about a positive PURPOSE for you when you are home with your family.  Do you help mom?  Care for pets?  How can you "do your part" to have positive feelings at home?

Finally, think about this:  What do I need to do in school to help me with whatever my PURPOSE is in the future?  (study, do homework, get along with others, follow the Cougar Ways....)

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we all have positive PURPOSE for...

YOU!

Cougars that "Do their Part" with a positive PURPOSE can change the world!

Welcome to Positive Actions!

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is August 21st!...  The first day of school!!
Positive Actions returns to WSIS and begins today on a journey together to discover that starting with positive thoughts, we can choose positive actions, and help us to gain positive feelings!  Take a look at our logo:

And, to welcome you all, here is a message from Mrs. Hott to tell you more about this year's program about "paws"itive actions at home, school, and in our community!

Did you see the beautiful stream of water behind Mrs. Hott?  Berkeley Springs is a unique community to live and grow up. And, just like that stream in the video is full of many drops of water, our school is also filled with unique and wonderfully made children.  When we add them all together, and mix in some positive acts of kindness, we've made a beautiful pool of water.
Today, we will begin looking at my favorite value word:  Kindness.
Check out this cool picture:
(Teacher, please read to class:)
Every act of Kindness, no matter how small, creates a ripple out and reaches our community around us.  Whether we are home, at school, or somewhere in our community, being kind is a Positive Action that helps us, and others, feel good.
What is Kindness?
Think of an act of kindness YOU did this summer.  Got one?  Raise your hand and share this with your class.
Now, for Positive Actions today, our students at Warm Springs Intermediate School are going to begin to make our school a "Community of Cougars that Care!"  With just one act of kindness...it begins with YOU!
What kind thing can you do today?

Get Ready for a POSITIVE school year...filled with Kindness!
Stand up everyone!
Push in those chairs!
and...
Let's do the Positive Action Theme Song!

To close, keep standing, and let's all read together the Warm Springs Intermediate School's

COUGAR CREED
I will make today the best day ever.
I will be respectful, responsible, and safe.
I will help my fellow students and my school reach their goals.
I will focus on a positive future.

Cougars that are KIND can change the world!

CARING - Aug. 23 - Raise the Roof...

on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, August 24th! As we continue our Cougar Crawl around Warm Springs Intermediate School over the next two weeks, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

CARE

Tell your teacher what you think the word "CARE" means.
"to feel concern for others, recognizing that other student's interests and likes are important too"

Look at this billboard we found and think about what it might mean:

To care.  It is very important for us to care for other people, our friends, class mates, teachers, and our friends, families, and neighbors.  Sometimes, with people we don't even know, we show a Positive Action just by caring for someone who needs our help, like when this officer helped a baby after there was a really big flood in New Orleans, LA.

Read this:

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we care about...

YOU!

Watch this:

We began this week talking about kindness.  If we "care" about others, we will act kindly towards them.  Talk about what you noticed in this video were acts of caring for others.  For Positive Actions today, let's show our school community that we care too!

What can you do to show that you care?

How do you feel when you have done something to show that you care?

Cougars that CARE can change the world!
