🎨"2021 Family Art Therapy Week 6" with Ms. Mandi, BSW🎨

2021- FAMILY ART-THERAPY WEEK 6

A little history about Art Therapy: Art Therapy was discovered by a British Artist, Adrian Hill in 1942, while she was recovering from tuberculosis.

This weeks projects are going to be related to the Positive Action Word of the Week-

CREATIVITY

Your CREATIONS can be uploaded and emailed to me at: Amanda.Knepper@k12.wv.us Please check the links on PositiveValuesNetwork.com for other art therapy projects and

Positive Action videos.

CREATIVITY in art means to use your imagination!! Do things outside of your comfort level and experiment with colors, textures, and materials. You may surprise yourself and find that you really enjoy using different things when creating your masterpieces. This week we are going to use some items that most people dont think to use or do when making art. Art is a great way to express yourself in a healthy and creative way and is also a wonderful stress reliever.

Monday- Project: Potato Stamp

Today you will need a potato, a piece of paper, some paint and a butter knife. Each member of the family will need these supplies. (Please make sure to have your adult present when doing this activity). Please wash and dry your potato. You are going to cut your potato in half. Then you are going to take one half of your potato and on the side you cut, you will make a shape: circle, heart, star etc. You can even be creative and make a design. You will need to make sure that the part you want to use for your stamp is on the surface. Below are a few pictures to help with explaining this project. Once you have your design cut out, you will dip your design into the paint gently, just covering the shape you made.

Then, use as a stamp and press gently onto your paper. If you have a stamp pad you can use that as well. You can make more than one stamp to create your picture and share them with your family members. The more stamps you have, the more creative you can be with your picture.

(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO ME AT amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT and please feel free to comment what worked and what didn’t work for your family.) 😊

Tuesday- Project: Morgan County Lego Art

Today we will be using Legos to create your favorite Morgan County Building or House. Each member of your family will need Legos or you can choose one building as a family and build that together. You can be creative to make positive changes to this building. Please take pictures and upload so we can see your creations! Tell us which building you created and the changes you made. You can also mention why you chose that building and why you wanted to make changes.

(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO ME amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) 😊

Wednesday- Project: Hammer Splatter Painting (USE CAUTION!! PAINT WILL SPLATTER!!)

Today we will be using paper, paint and a hammer. Please make sure to do this either outside or put down an old towel if you are inside because paint will splatter. Each person in your family will place a piece of paper down on a table or if outside the ground. Maybe take a cardboard box outside and lay the paper onto that. Then, make dots of paint on your paper. You will carefully take a hammer and hit the spots of paint to make your design. The more colors and more dots the more design you will have. (Also, wear play clothes!!)

(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) 😊

Thursday- Project: Family Heart Link Chain

Today you will need colored paper, scissors, glue or a stapler, and your family to help. Each member of the family will make strips of paper. Lay them in a pile to the side. When you have several pieces, you will start linking them together (As shown in the picture) to make a heart chain. One person may have to hold the piece, while another member staples or glues. There are many different ways to create your chain. You can decide with your family beforehand how you would like to hook your hearts together. There is a sideways version or a top/bottom version. You can add glitter, sequins, or color on your strips of paper to add character to your project.

(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) 😊

Friday- Project: Rolled Paper Hearts for Valentines Day

Today you will need a few sheets of paper (different colors will work best), scissors, glue and your family members. You will cut thin strips of paper. You will start with one end and roll the strip until you get to the other end. You will do this with several pieces. Lay them to the side in a pile until you are finished. Use these pieces to lay onto another full sheet of paper to design a heart. You can draw a heart and fill it in, or use yarn as a boundary. Be CREATIVE!! Each member of the family can make one. Then you can display them in your home for Valentines Day!! Or you can give to someone you Love.

(PLEASE SEND YOUR CREATIONS TO amanda@morganpartnership.org WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT) 😊 You can also use Amanda.knepper@k12.wv.us to email your projects.
