Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, March 1st!! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Mr. Fernando!!  

From concept design, construction, to "open for business," join Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima for a look at a unique local restaurant created with a flavor all about West Virginia, The Canary Grill, filled with beautiful surroundings and people who care about YOU!

Do YOU remember Mrs. Hott talking about CREATIVITY for Intellectual Wellness when a collaboration of cougars constructed a "rocket restaurant" modeled after the new Canary Grill in town?  Here is a picture from Cougar Den of the restaurant that blasts off and arrives at your location, wow! It sure looks different:

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:  
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?  
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 28th!

WSIS students are PAWSOME!  Check out their collaboration while building structures to help our homes, school, and communities using KNOWLEDGE for Intellectual Wellness:  curiosity and creativity! Each and every child has a unique experience, and adding their knowledge to Positive Actions, we make caring communities!  (Teachers: This is a super cool segment, yet pretty long; so feel free to view as time permits.  There are so many wonderful creations and proud Cougars!)

As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

KINDNESS

Tell your teacher what you think the word "KINDNESS" means. 
"a quality of being friendly, generous, considerate"

KINDNESS.  What does "KINDNESS" look like? Have you seen any kindness yet today?   Watch this video:

Now, it's YOUR turn.  Here is your "kindness" positive action for today:
First, take a sheet of paper from your Positive Action folder.
Next, trace your hand.
Write the words "KINDNESS MATTERS" in your hand picture.
Decorate, color, make YOUR Kind hand unique...just like YOU!
Finally, your Positive Action today is to give a "kind hand" to someone who needs it!  Think of 
someone YOU can make smile today by sharing KINDNESS.
Give them YOUR kindness matters hand!

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...

Talkin' Tuesdays on Feb. 26, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care 
about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to 
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 26th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!  

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott with a special visit from our PAWsome friend, Ms. Sheima!  For today, we take you back over to Widmeyer where we will get to chat with Nurse Tammy who has some tips for staying healthy.  Watch this:   

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset. 

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"Who is your favorite musical instrument?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite musical instrument is, I want you to also include WHY it is your favorite.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite musical instrument is, well...only the very instrument I have loved ever since I was eight years old, or maybe even earlier than that, which would be before the 1970's.... the ALTO SAXOPHONE! The alto sax is my favorite musical instrument because I have always loved the way it sounds!  And, I am a super duper JAZZ fan too where saxes can be always be heard in jazz music.  Listen to this, and see if maybe you recognize the song:

  

Next, I want to show you something really, really special.  Here is Mrs. Hott getting ready for a Positive Action class last year.  You'll never guess from whom I received this beautiful instrument...look:

I began playing the alto sax when I was just 8 years old, it's true!  Last year, when Levi took my horn to the middle school for band, Mr. Cable gave me his to play for class.  Isn't that Positive!

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite musical instrument is and why!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other. 

Now, in your Positive Action folder, there is another discovery question for today. BONUS...we have two questions.  What is your favorite clothing to wear?  Mine is my Morgan County Partnership shirt.  LOL!  Check it out:

When Levi was little, he LOVED to wear his Elmo shirt.  In fact, I used to have to sneak it off him while he slept to wash it (shhhh...don't tell him I told you this!) Raise your hand to share with your classroom community what YOUR favorite clothes are! Tell us your style!
 

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, Mr. Cable, Ms. Kline,  or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Do YOU know that "the way we think about ourselves controls how happy, healthy, and successful we will be"?  In Positive Actions this year, we are discovering that we each have beautiful, unique characteristics that are all important and valuable to our Cougar Community, here, at school, and at home.

This week for your morning "community character vlogcasts," you will see some curious students!   Also, we will watch and learn about how INCLUDING OTHERS and SHARING KINDNESS are Positive Actions.  And finally, Fun Friday takes us outside Warm Springs Intermediate School where we will meet someone who cares about YOU!

In the Cougar Den, we will continue to focus on Positive Actions for our INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS, reviewing those great value words, CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY. This week, we will add a new word:  KNOWLEDGE, and we will meet awesome people from West Virginia who gained knowledge and helped our homes, schools, and communities.

CURIOUS COMMUNITY THAT CARES!

Mrs. White works at Kesecker Realty in Berkeley Springs, WV. She is a real estate agent, selling property and houses in Morgan County.  Many times, Mrs. White is the first person someone meets when they move to Morgan County.  She is always helpful and smiles.  That is a Positive Action!

Mr. Redick works at State Farm Insurance in Berkeley Springs, WV.  He grew up in Morgan County and is very active in our community.  That is a Positive Action!

SAFETY on Feb. 14, 2019, Raise the Roof....

...on student assets!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

And....today is Valentine's Day!  So, please remember to be "PAW"sitive and super sweet to others today, and every day!  Here is a book to read together before we see today's positive action to Raise Student Assets...check it out!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 14th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

SAFETY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "SAFETY" means. 
"the condition of being protected, or unlikely to cause danger or harm"

SAFETY.  What does "SAFETY" look like?  When students feel safe at home, school, and in his or her neighborhood, it raises our student assets - allowing us to concentrate on becoming great students!  Watch this video:

Think about a time when you felt safe.  Share with a friend or your teacher, what happened when you felt safe.

Next, talk about ways we stay SAFE at school.
(following expectations, etc.)

Now, (and this may be a really hard question), have you ever not felt safe?  Share with a friend or your teacher if you ever felt unsafe at home,...
at school, or....
in your community/neighborhood.
(allow time for discussion)

What do you think is important to remember if/when you ever feel not safe?  YOU are never alone!

And, you ALWAYS can find help.  

What are some ways we can ask for help when we do not feel safe?
(talk to a friend, tell an adult, a teacher, ask Mr. Cable, call 911....)

Positive Action wants all students to know that our community is here to help, ALWAYS, because we care! 

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, February 13th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.

LOOK!  Congratulations to some PAWsome 3rd grade students from Ms. Faith's class!  They were caught being POSITIVE!  Check out Syrenity Renner, Noah Enright, and James Haines! They were showing kindness to new students to our Cougar Family by making them feel welcome to their new community!  You are ALL PAWSOME!


Today's video takes a look at adults who are positive when they show FORGIVENESS.  When we recognize and encourage FORGIVENESS in our world, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.  And, we also have positive feelings when we are receiving FORGIVENESS too.  When we forgive others, we are better able to solve problems and work towards positive goals.

First, lets see if we know what it means to forgive.  Who knows?
Forgiveness is to "stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake they may, or may not, have done to you."

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, Ms. Kline, or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Makin' Music Mondays - Feb. 11, 2019

Welcome to Positive Actions Community Character Vlogcasts!  Today is Monday, February 11, 2019!!! 


Mrs. Hott is SUPER excited to share Positive Actions with Morgan County students because today, and each Monday, is "Makin' Music Mondays!" where we celebrate in song our "PAW"some school!

CLASSROOM CHALLENGE!!! -- Ok Cougar Family, here we go!!!  Send me a selfie of your entire class with books!  Gather your photo friendly kiddos together, either each holding a book OR with your teacher reading to your class.  Snap a picture on your cell....serious or silly! Text to Mrs. Hott at 304-582-8696!  For each classroom photo that participates, the Morgan County Partnership has a surprise!  I will bring to the Cougar Den this week.  Sheima and I will be making the video on Tuesday. Reading for fun boosts our CREATIVITY and Raises Student Assets!  Remember what Jack said.....

Do YOU know that "the way we think about ourselves controls how happy, healthy, and successful we will be"?  In Positive Actions this year, we are discovering that we each have beautiful, unique characteristics that are all important and valuable to our Cougar Community, here, at school, and at home.

This week for your morning "community character vlogcasts," you will see our awesome staff - Ms. Cain, Ms. Betty, and Ms. McCumbee!   Also, we will watch and learn how to FORGIVE and SOLVE PROBLEMS using Positive Actions.  You will also follow along with some super crazy CHICKENS singing about SAFETY! (Yes, I said chickens)!  And finally, Fun Friday takes us this week to State Farm Insurance with super friendly, Mr. Jay Redick!

In the Cougar Den, we will continue to focus on Positive Actions for our INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS, reviewing that great value word, CURIOSITY and building BRAIN wellness with CREATIVITY.  Mrs. Hott is bringing a bucket of Levi's Legos to the Cougar Den to see what our super creative cougars will create...lol!  Get ready for an exciting team challenge!  Exercises for our brain to boost intellectual wellness helps us all with social behaviors and academic achievement!

Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, February 8th! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Mr. Justin Mellott!!

NEWS FLASH ** NEWS FLASH ** NEWS FLASH
LOOK!  We found Mr. Wilson doing a PAWsitive Action!  Mrs. Hott was CURIOUS so I asked Mr. Wilson what books he likes to read.  He told me books about history....guess what?  Meeeeee too!  See?  When we are curious and ask questions (the positive action) we learn more about each other and build strong communities.  Mr. Wilson wants to read my book next too!  PAWSOME!

"Gotcha" being PAWsitive!  Look for Mr. Wilson on the PAW CRAWL!

Mr. Mellott is a Physical Therapist at Rankins Fitness Center in Berkeley Springs, WV.  He spends his days helping people to feel better.  That is a Positive Action!

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:  
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?  
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....
