"Woohoo!" It's time to talk about our Intellectual Wellness!  Words that are healthy for our brains!  Remember to NEVER use harmful substances because your brain is still developing and Mrs. Hott wants YOU to be healthy! You each have unique brains, capable of thinking beautiful Positive thoughts, leading to actions or DECISIONS, and finally feelings!  In order to help our brains be healthy and well, we will be talking about a PAWsome word this week, CHALLENGE!

For Positive Actions, we are learning about wonderful words that build our Social and Emotional Wellness to help us all get along (at home, school, and in the community), raise our student assets, build confidence, and improve our academics!

It means is "something that puts you to the test - like running your first marathon, learning a new language, riding a bike or reading Harry Potter. "             
  1. We will learn more about POSITIVE character values, physical and intellectual wellness for our body and brain.  On the vlogcast this week, we will watch Kristen Ambrose tell us about her Positive Actions, see a friend not give up on his challenge, hear Kid President help us all disagree, and finally meet Susan Caperton from the Morgan County Back Packs.

Community that CARES on Feb. 28, 2020, Morgan County Commissioners Bicentennial Birthday Sing-a-long

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students in 
Morgan County Schools!

We are so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 28, 2020! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we celebrate the PAWsome community where we live and meet new friends who care about YOU!


Our community has some super amazing folks who are excellent PAWsitive Partners and Role Models!  Today, return to the Morgan County Courthouse with our County Commissioners:  Joel Tuttle, Ken Reed, and Sean Forney!  See:

These guys care about the future of Morgan County and they care about YOU too!  They each have unique KNOWLEDGE about our home to help us have a safe and loving community.  We are ALL celebrating the Bicentennial, or 200th Birthday of Morgan County, all year.  This week, we learned a new song to make classroom music videos and "dropped some knowledge" about Daniel Morgan, remember? Lets join our friends at the Court House and sing "Happy Birthday Morgan County!"

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:  
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 28th! 

As our Positive Action Classrooms in grades K-5 are making their own Music Videos this week about Morgan County, today we will take a look at another class who made their own Music Video too!  It is all about.....

KINDNESS

What knowledge do YOU have about kindness?  Tell your teacher what you think the word "KINDNESS" means. 
"a quality of being friendly, generous, considerate"

KINDNESS.  What does "KINDNESS" look like? Have you seen any kindness yet today?   Watch this video:





Now, it's YOUR turn.  Here is your "kindness" positive action for today:
First, take a sheet of paper from your desk or Positive Action folder.
Next, trace your hand.
Write the words "KINDNESS MATTERS" in your hand picture.
Decorate, color, make YOUR Kind hand unique...just like YOU!
Finally, your Positive Action today is to give a "kind hand" to someone who needs it!  Think of 
someone YOU can make smile today by sharing KINDNESS.
Give them YOUR kindness matters hand!

Today is TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care 
about the students in

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to 
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

We are so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 25, 2020! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

Congratulations to Lilly Clark!  Her creation was selected by the Morgan County Partnership to be the new logo for MCAfter3!  Isn't it PAWsome!!! Lilly used her INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS to create and design a symbol for this really cool after school program.  See?  From sports, Rubik's cube, and homework help!...it also looks like she "captured" all the fun in a camera lens!  So, look for more features from our MCAfter3 Positive Action Cast and Crew!

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about each other, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset. 

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:
"What is your favorite music video?"

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite music video is "For Good" from my favorite show....listen...

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us about YOUR favorite music video?  Maybe after this week, it will be a music video with YOU in it!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other. 

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Our community has some super amazing folks who are excellent ROLE MODELS and PAWsitive Partners!  Today, we meet a special lady who helps students at Berkeley Springs High School!  Ever wonder how all that food gets to the Back Pack program?  Are you "curious"?  Well, our special guest today brings her friends together to prepare and pack oodles and oodles of yummy nutritional meals for our Morgan County Scholars!  Not only does she help with Back Packs, but she also is a BSHS faculty, AND her family owns the adorable new restaurant, Charlotte's!  Meet Mrs. Kim Mason and her friends at BSHS! "EVERYONE MATTERS!"

This week in Positive Action, we hear about INCLUSION and continue to discover words for healthy brains to help us reach academic success!

Today, BSHS freshman, Emma Christie, shares poetry she memorized for the "Poetry Out Loud" competition this year. Listen to her beautiful expression and watch her utilize her INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS. What can YOU memorize? It's a great brain exercise! We have an intellectual challenge for YOU! Memorize a poem of your choice, sign up with Mrs. Hott, and film your poem too!

SAFETY on Feb. 13, 2020! Raise the roof....

...on student assets!  
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 13th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

SAFETY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "SAFETY" means. 
"the condition of being protected, or unlikely to cause danger or harm"

SAFETY.  What does "SAFETY" look like?  When students feel safe at home, school, and in his or her neighborhood, it raises our student assets - allowing us to concentrate on becoming great students!  Watch this video:


Think about a time when you felt safe.  Share with a friend or your teacher, what happened when you felt safe.

Next, talk about ways we stay SAFE at school.
(following expectations, etc.)

Now, (and this may be a really hard question), have you ever not felt safe?  Share with a friend or your teacher if you ever felt unsafe at home,...
at school, or....
in your community/neighborhood.
(allow time for discussion)

What do you think is important to remember if/when you ever feel not safe?  YOU are never alone!

And, you ALWAYS can find help.  

What are some ways we can ask for help when we do not feel safe?
(talk to a friend, tell an adult, a teacher, call 911....)

Positive Action wants all students to know that our community is here to help, ALWAYS, because we care! 

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...

FORGIVENESS on Feb. 12, 2020 & "Where in MoCo are PAWsitive Actions?"

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!  

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, February 12, 2020!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students in Morgan County Schools.  

Today's video takes a look at adults who are positive when they show FORGIVENESS.  When we recognize and encourage FORGIVENESS in our world, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.  And, we also have positive feelings when we are receiving FORGIVENESS too.  When we forgive others, we are better able to solve problems and work towards positive goals.

First, lets see if we know what it means to forgive.  Who knows?
Forgiveness is to "stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake they may, or may not, have done to you."

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Tell your teacher and classmates a time when you FORGAVE someone.  What did that person do that needed your forgiveness.

Next, we ALL have needed to be forgiven too!  What is something YOU may have done that needed to be forgiven. Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to FORGIVE you. 

Have YOU ever done a negative action that required forgiveness from someone else? Buddy up and talk about times you experienced forgiveness; both from others and for others.

* get a scrap of paper, (or ask for help if you need it)
* write down your name, your teacher, and your guess, then, (again, ask for help if you need it)
* take your answer to the Positive Action mailbox, or globe, at your school, or comment, or email

Talkin' Tuesdays w/Ms. Ruggerio on Feb. 11, 2020

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care 
about the students in
Morgan County Schools!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to 
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

We are so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Feb. 11, 2020! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!  

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima, where we will get to meet a super PAWsome ART teacher from Warm Springs Intermediate School!  Ms. Ruggiero recently had a speical visitor who helped students to self regulate with YOGA!Watch this:




YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset. 

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:
"How do YOU self-regulate?"

Think about it.  When you feel upset or angry, what do YOU do to help you calm down?  In Ms. Ruggerio's classroom, students learned that YOGA can help them relax.  What about you?

COUNT TO 10!  

Let's try it:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!

Wow!....I feel better already!

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us what YOU do to self-regulate, calm down, and choose positive behavior???!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other. 

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....
