Talkin' Tuesdays with Ms. Akers on Oct. 1, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care
about the students in
Morgan County Schools!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, October 1, 2019!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog where we will get to meet Ms. Akers, a 3rd grade teacher from our Warm Springs Intermediate family:

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"What is your least favorite food?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your least favorite food is, I want you to also include WHY it is your least favorite food.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My least favorite food is a mushroom because, well...just LOOK at them :

Eeeewe...they sure look disgusting to me!  For some reason, the idea of eating fungus sounds so gross!  But guess what....Ms. Sheima LOVES mushrooms!  Every time we get a Fox's pizza, she always gets them (and, she adds olives too)...see!

BUT, want to know something cool?! Ms. Sheima and I don't eat the same stuff but we still are great friends!  You can do this too!  And, even though I do not like to eat mushrooms, I will try them prepared different ways.  Who knows?  Maybe someday I can learn to like mushrooms! And, I learned that when I give things a chance, I may be surprised.

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR least favorite food and why!
(pause here for sharing)That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.  Remember, you can also use your Positive Action Journal to write down or draw your thoughts and dreams too.

And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, our school counselor, or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 26, 2019! Today we will take a look at raising student asset #38, which focuses on a PAWsitive core concept, "students like and is proud to be the person that he or she is!"  -- super important positive action:

SELF ESTEEM

Tell your teacher what you think the words "SELF ESTEEM" means.
* "confidence in one's own worth or abilities"
* "self respect"
* "placing value on one's own self"

Self Esteem.  What does that look like?    Well, watch today's "Sweet Cocoon" and see how sometimes after we conquer difficult circumstances, we can transform into beautiful results with hard work and Positive Actions. Watch today's video...

Now, let's talk!

Now, let's answer these questions:
1)  Who had a positive thought? (the two friends?  the worm?)

2)  Which person did a positive action?

3)  Who has positive feelings at the end of this video?

4)  Describe the worm's self esteem?  Describe the butterfly's self esteem?

5)  Now, talk about YOUR self esteem.

"What is your favorite season?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite season is, I want you to also include WHY you like that season.

Here is another reason I LOVE summer...watch this!

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite season and why!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

EQUALITY for Sept. 19, 2019, RAISE THE ROOF...

....on student assets!

Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 19, 2019! Today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

EQUALITY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "EQUALITY" means.
* "social fairness or justice"
* "state of being the same"
* "every person has the same value"
"Equality is the idea that all people are equal, regardless of age, gender, orientation, ethnicity, race, disability, or religious background."

We recognize, also, that our US Constitution protects ALL of us, regardless of our difference, and gives us all EQUAL rights as citizens.  Many people from all over the world come to the United States who are different.  It's a POSITIVE ACTION to treat each with EQUALITY!

Having equality.  What does that mean?   Watch today's video and listen to some students talk about "equality"...

Now, let's talk!  Let's all answer those questions too!
1)  What is equality?

2)  Should all people be equal?

3)  What should happen to people who don't treat others equally?

4)  Do you think that a "bully" feels equal to other students?  Why do you think a bully is a bully?

5)  If you see a bully, what can you do or say?

Take a look at the billboard below.  What do you think it means?

Morgan County students that
REACH OUT with EQUALITY
can change the world!

Finally, I am super excited to share with you the following vlog announcing our weeks 1-4 winners for "Where in Morgan County are PAWsitive Actions?"  Watch this:

Value Vlog Vednesday - REACH OUT for Sept. 18, 2019 - and Where in Morgan County are PAWsitive Actions?

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Sept. 18, 2019!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video "V"ednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring community of students from Morgan County, WV.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they REACH OUT to be kind.  When we reach out, or make an effort to be positive to another person with kindness, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, and helping to make you feel good about yourself.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about which students illustrate positive ways to REACH OUT!  Then, watch the final 30 seconds to discover "WHERE IN MORGAN COUNTY ARE PAWSITIVE ACTIONS?" this week.  :

Let's talk about it.

Discuss which student showed a Positive Thought?

Which students showed a Negative Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to REACH OUT to you. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Hott wants you to do a Positive Action too!  If each one of us at school did just one Positive Action, we would reach out to 400 other people in Morgan County!  So, how can YOU reach out to someone today.

I want each of you to think of someone YOU want to reach out to.  Know who it is?  A friend, parent, someone sad on the bus? Raise your hand when you have thought of someone to reach out to today.

Now, what can YOU do to reach out?  REACHING OUT is "to offer help or assistance" to another person. Maybe you can smile at someone!  Or, maybe you can help a friend with homework; read a book to your sibling; help mom with dishes tonight; or even invite a student who looks alone to sit with you!  What will you do today?

Go do it!

Be UNIQUE and REACH OUT to all.

Students who REACH OUT to others
can change the world!

Talkin' Tuesday for Sept. 17, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care
about the students in
Morgan County Schools, WV!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 17, 2019!!

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Cutie the Cougar where we will get to meet Ms. Myers, a 4th grade teacher from our Warm Springs Intermediate School family.  We interviewed this special lady a few years ago as she was organizing a super POSITIVE gesture to students who needed supplies after a terrible flood.  Ms. Myers is a UNIQUE person with a PAWsitive heart for ALL children, near and far.  Watch this:

Our staff feature for today is a special teacher who was recently recognized a Morgan County's Teacher of the Year!  Congratulatios and meet Ms. Tia Myers!

"What is your favorite dessert?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite dessert is, I want you to also include WHY you like that that dessert.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite dessert is warm CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES because (oh my goodness,...let's see...) my favorite dessert is warm chocolate chip cookies because I love to bake cookies.  When I make them, I just love the way it makes the whole house smell good!  It reminds me of every holiday when we make oodles of cookies to share with family.

But, want to know a secret?  Sometimes, well, a lot actually...I manage to burn a batch of cookies!  Really, I do!  Want to see?

So, what do you guys think?  Look tasty?  Well actually, what you see here even the dog wouldn't eat.  But Isaac had fun tossing them off the porch!
Check these out! (above)  These were supposedly peanut butter.  Not quite as bad, even my Dan ate these!  (or...maybe he was just really hungry!)

Even though I have managed to nearly burn my house down on several occasions, when I get a batch of chocolate chip done just right, ooooooh....let me tell you.... they will melt in your mouth!

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite dessert and why!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other. (And, when you visit the Cougar Den or see Ms Sheima for Positive Actions, we have a surprise in your new folders to journal about your discoveries and feelings too!)

In your Positive Action folder coming this year, you'll find a sweet new journal!  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

MoTo Monday for Sept. 16, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima are SUPER excited to share Positive Actions with Morgan County students because today, and each Monday, is when we "motor-up" YOUR school week and get ready for more PAWsome days of learning and growing...
"MOTO Monday!"
or, "Motovation Monday" where we will see a vlog to get our week "motored-up" with positive thoughts, actions, and feelings!

Our PAWsitive Action "word of the week"is:  UNIQUE
And in Spanish:  UNICO
Try to say "unico"!

For Positive Actions, we are learning about wonderful words that build our Social and Emotional Wellness to help us all get along (at home, school, and in the community), raise our student assets, build confidence, and improve our academics!

UNIQUE is.....
     *being the only one,
     *one of a kind,
     *being unlike anything else
     *always being yourself,
     *celebrating your differences, and
     *is a POSITIVE Action.

We'll talk more about this for today's Daily Vlogcast, so keep watching for a super sweet princes!  Maybe you know her?

Also this week, we will talk about the positive value "EQUALITY" and learn that each of us are equally important, and we ALL matter.

Positive Actions will appear in our schools this year and begins today on a journey together to discover that starting with positive thoughts, we can choose positive actions, and help us to gain positive feelings!  Take a look at our logo:
