MOTO Mondays - April 1, 2019

Welcome to "PAW"sitive Actions Daily Community Character Vlogcasts!  Today is Monday, April 1, 2019!!! 

Mrs. Hott is SUPER excited to share Positive Actions with Morgan County students because today, and each Monday, is now... 
"MOTO Monday!"    
or, "Motovation Monday" where we will see a vlog to get our week "motored-up" with positive thoughts, actions, and feelings. 

Our PAWsitive Action word of the week is:
KINDNESS
From "science" to Sesame Street!
This week, we will look at the science of kindness, hear how "Kindness is a Muscle," watch a vlog about how YOU treat others shows the world that you are positive, and visit a new friend, Ms. Regina from Ravenwood Bakery & Pub.  In the Cougar Den with Mrs. Hott, we will practice acts of kindness, then try them in our homes, school, and community!

Community Cougars that CARE! March 29, 2019

Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School


I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, March 29th!! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Today, we have a very special mother and daughter team from Roy's Service Center in Berkeley Springs, WV.  Meet Buffy Farris, with her super sweet mom, Cindy Hovermale!!

Ms. Cindy loves Morgan County!  Her dad, Roy, started the family business many years ago.  She often helps people in our community by sharing love.  Both Ms. Cindy and her daughter, Buffy, say that to care for others and to share - even before being asked to - is important to have a Caring Community!  This also applies to here in the classroom!  Sharing is a Positive Action!

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:  
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?  
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, March 28th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

COURTESY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "COURTESY" means. 
"showing politeness of one's attitude and behavior towards others"

COURTESY.  What does "courtesy" look like?  Do you know?  Today, we will take a look at "10 Rules of Common Courtesy", but first, watch this video:






Before we talk about the 10 rules of common courtesy, tell your teacher what was not courteous, or "rude," at this school.
Now, let's list 10 simple Rules of Common Courtesy together:

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!  

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, March 27th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.  

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they practice COURTEOUS MANNERS.  When we recognize and encourage students to use COURTEOUS MANNERS in our world, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.  And, we also have positive feelings when we receive COURTEOUS MANNERS from others.

Talkin' Tuesdays - March 26, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care 
about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to 
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, March 26th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!  

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott where a former WSIS Cougar returns to share his talent: playing the trumpet!  Ms. Rossignol recently hosted a special guest following reading the book "The Trumpet of the Swan".

We are all born with different beautiful abilities.  In The Trumpet of the Swan, a children's novel published in 1970 by E.B. White, a swan named Louis is born without a voice and learns to play the trumpet in order to win the love of a swan named Serena.

Watch BSHS trumpeter, Garret, demonstrate what a trumpet sounds like while thinking about YOUR unique voice.  Later, we will also talk about the different places from where we all came, or,...heritage.

Thank was "PAW"some!  

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset. 

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our selves.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:


"What is your family heritage? From where did your ancestors come?"


Wait, that's not so hard, right?  "Heritage"...what does that mean?  Did your relatives come from another country, state, or town?  Did anyone you are related to live in another place before Berkeley Springs?

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My ancestors were from Ireland.  The McBee family came to Morgan County to work on the railroad.  My great-great-great grandfather, with his brothers, were given a land grant from the King.  My mom and dad still live there today.  
Here is a fun picture of me with my Aunt Marion, my dad, and my mom. 

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us about YOUR family heritage!  Did you, your parents, or grandparents always live in Berkeley Springs?    Maybe you live with another family?  Tell us about the places you know about.  I was born in Berkeley Springs too!  Let's discover...

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other. 

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, or even Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Today, Cutie the Cougar found Dr. Erich May, our Morgan County Superintendent of Schools, looking at his favorite books!!!  Watch Cutie use SIGN LANGUAGE to ask Dr. May some curious questions about language, words and motions we use to communicate and talk to each other.

OMEGA!!!  This week, we celebrate healthy brains!  Students that choose to eat foods good for their brain, like OMEGA-3, are doing PAWsitive Actions too!


To celebrate healthy and well brains this week, we will celebrate the PAWsome Positive Action word;
OMEGA
Choosing healthy foods is a positive action 
that helps us feel great!  Nix the six, Eat the OMEGA-3 to help your brain develop healthy!
Try some tasty advocados!

As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

FRIENDSHIP

Tell your teacher what you think the word "FRIENDSHIP" means. 
"when two, or more, people get along with mutual respect, support and trust for each other's likes and differences"

FRIENDSHIP.  What does "FRIENDSHIP" look like?  When children are included in activities, they are being a good friend to others.  This is a positive action.   Watch this video:





I LOVE this video!  Why?  Because Mrs. Hott was typically the last person picked to play sports!  Sure!  My friends always were ready for me to help them with school; but when it came to sports, "shorty" was not the first friend on anyone's list.  
But, that's ok!  I may have been a little late trying out my athletic abilities, (like 49 when I began to train for a half marathon!), but I always tried to encourage others to play games with us too.
Think of a time when you felt "left out."  How did this make you feel?  (sad, angry...)  Remember this feeling, so if you ever see someone alone, maybe during recess, try to be a friend today and invite them to play along too!
And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...

For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet and celebrate those in our school community doing PAWsitive Actions!  Today as we celebrate BRAIN Wellness, here are those PAWsome students in the Sardine Club parading the OMEGA-3 message at this year's Apple Butter Parade.  Check out this video:

"What was your worst accident or, 
your biggest boo boo?"


Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have remembered what your worst accident or biggest boo boo was, I want you to also include WHY it was your worst accident, what happened?

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My worst accident happened to me when I was in the third grade.  I was riding a horse when we walked over a yellow jacket's nest in the ground.  Well, the bees got angry, flew out, and STUNG the horse I was on.  The, the horse got angry at the bees that were stinging him.  Then the horse got angry because I was riding him.  Next, he started bucking like crazy and threw me off through the air!  

I landed on a rock and knocked my front tooth out.  It was the worst boo boo I've ever had.  And see.....?  I still am missing that front tooth!
I ended up needing braces TWO times!

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite bedtime and why!   Let's discover...

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

This week for your morning "community character vlogcasts," you will see from our awesome school family - WSIS Sardine Club!  YAY!   Also, we will watch and learn about that HELPING OTHERS is a Positive Actions, especially when the "others" may have made you angry.  We will raise student assets, learning to "invite & include" others with a vlog about FRIENDSHIP.  And finally, Fun Friday takes us out in the community where we meet a friend that cares about YOU..., our Morgan County School Superintendent, Dr. Erich May!

What does "RESPECT" look like?  In order to better understand respect, today's video shows us some pretty awesome examples in a school.  We will be taking a look at respect for a few weeks.  For today, Positive Action wants you to first put on your "spy" glasses to look for students showing respect.  Each time you see "respect" happening, high five a friend near you.  If you want, you can pause the video and write in your Positive Action folder the "respect" you discovered.  Watch this video:

GUESS WHAT?!? WSIS Cougars rose to the CHALLENGE last week in the Cougar Den and collaboratively created a block surprise for their teachers.  Our diligent students used special effort, extra practice, and Positive Actions and were able to tie a balloon with one hand, worked with a partner to tie together, build a tower, and deliver all the way across the Cougar Den!  Great work meeting the CHALLENGE!  And, Mrs. Hott can't wait to hear how you all used PAWsitive Actions to meet your challenges here at school this week.  Check out our newest "Gotcha Game" Video:



 On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.  

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they show KINDNESS.  When we recognize and encourage KINDNESS in our world, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.

Talkin' Tuesdays - for March 12, 2019

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, volunteers and administrators 
care about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to 
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, March 12th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

The NFL and American Dairy Association granted WSIS two new portable basketball hoops!  That's PAWSOME! Get YOUR PAWsome poster from Mr. Boyles! Then, share a picture at home with #FuelGreatness on Instagram! Staying physically fit is a Positive Action!

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott where we will get to meet someone special you all love and remember, Ms. Ginnie Molnar!  I thought it would be fun to visit those important people from our school family who helped us when we used to be students at Widmeyer.

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset. 

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our selves.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:


"What is your favorite FLOWER?"


Wait, that's not so hard, right?  After you tell us what your favorite flower is, also share WHY you like that flower.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite flower is a dandelion!  I like dandelions because, they have an awesome name, don't they?  "Dande" is such a fun sounding word, and "lion" are pretty cool cats, right?  Look at this:

Oh sure, I know that some may feel that dandelions are weeds; but, I actually love their bright yellow color, watching their seeds travel through the air, and remember many hours making necklaces from dandelions.  

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite flower and why!   1, 2, 3,... Let's discover...

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other. 

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, or me, Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....
