Jan. 3, 2019 - Raise the Roof....

...on Student Assets,
where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

"WooHoo....It's time for...
Positive ACTIONS!"

A BIG Welcome Back to our school family!  Mrs. Hott hopes you ALL had a "paw"sitive holiday break!  I am super excited to return for 2019 with everyone here on our Community Positive Action Vlogcasts! I missed you guys so much!  So...what did YOU do since we talked last?  Look at this from my Hott family holiday break!  It is me with Dannypoo, family, and all our kiddos!  We celebrated our wedding anniversary - 22 years on December 24th!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

NEWS FLASH ** NEWS FLASH ** NEWS FLASH
LOOK!  Congratulations to our first recipient of a "GOTCHA" being PAWsitive Game Card for 2019...GRACI DAY!  Graci was nominated by Ms. Wills for helping a friend!  We are so proud of Graci for being a true "cougar that cares!"  And here is Mr. Boyles helping display her Gotcha Award too!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Jan. 3rd! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

ROLE MODELS

Tell your teacher what you think the words "ROLE MODEL" means.
"a person looked to by others as a positive example to be imitated or copied"

ROLE MODELS.  What do "ROLE MODELS look like?  Raise your hand and tell your teacher someone who is a role model.  Maybe you notice the Community Cougars that join us for lunch?  They are positive "role models".  Or, if you have a tutor helping you with Social Studies Fair projects, those older students are also great role models!  Parent's and other adults in a student's family, as well as nonfamily adults, modeling positive responsible behavior are our role models.

Want to know something pretty cool?  Look around the classroom.  Your school community is also full of great role models too!  Friends and classmates that exhibit Positive Actions are "PAW"some role models.  YOU, too, can be a ROLE MODEL when you...
* cooperate with classmates,
*respect others,
*are responsible,
*practice safety,
*decide not to bicker, pick, or whine!
Can you think of more? The world is full of great role models.  Watch this video:

Role Models can be found all around us.  Our homes, school, and community are filled with people who care about us and those we look up to as good examples.  Guess who my ROLE MODEL is... Do you know Michael J. Fox?  He has been in many movies.  He also has the same illness my husband has called Parkinson's Disease.  He is my Role Model because, even though he has a neurological (brain) disorder, he tries hard to keep positive and try to find a way to cure Parkinson's.
Now, think about someone you look up to.  Tell your teacher who YOUR role model is and why you look up to them.

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...

YOU!

Cougars that have positive ROLE MODELS can change the world!
Cougars that ARE positive ROLE MODELS can change the world!

GRACI DAY
(stay tuned for her PAWsome picture!)

Wait!  Who is that?  Someone stopped by Warm Springs Intermediate during lunch yesterday!  Sure hope Santa saw us using PAWsitive thoughts, actions, and feelings! Hi Santa!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 21st! Today, we have a special GIFT!  Ms. Sheima and I have discovered some valuable treasures at Warm Springs Intermediate School....YOU!  And, since it is a Positive Action to GIFT our unique and wonderfully made PAWsitive Actions, we have a special Fun Friday treat for our vlogcast today from our previous students, a
Holiday "E" Card
from WSIS Positive Action Cougars!

Here is today's video vlogcast:

Remember this:
YOU can do a POSITIVE ACTION today!  You ALL are unique and wonderfully made; so, share YOUR positive actions with someone - especially during this holiday season!  And guess what....it doesn't cost a dime! You don't need money to give a gift to someone else.  Want to know what gift YOU can give?.... you can do a POSITIVE ACTION!  Show someone you care with a something as simple as a smile, a respectful attitude, a gesture of gratitude, or being a caring friend!

It's free, a positive action,....and, it is contagious!  So, start right now to change the world by making positive choices for your physical and intellectual well-being AND your example will encourage others, impress friends and classmates, and launch you into a positive future!

I promise!

So, tell your teacher what positive action or "GIFT" you will share during the holidays.  Think of someone to say "Happy Holidays" to in your home, school, or community.  Sharing a happy greeting is a positive action.  Make a special card from you.  Draw them a picture.  Fold another origami heart. (Instructions are here: Make a Paper Heart Then Share YOUR Gift)

Next, want to know what my favorite gift is this season....each.of.YOU!

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule; so, Mrs. Hott wants you to remember that over holiday break, we need to treat others kindly and with respect.

Changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!  See you back here in 2019!

(close with Golden Rule and sing along when ready!)

WSIS Cougars are a GIFT
that can change the world!

Happy Holidays from Ms. Hott,
"the positive action fairy"
Special thanks to Mary Jane for her precious GIFT!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 20th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

GIVING

Tell your teacher what you think the word "GIVING" means.
"freely transferring something to someone else"

GIVING.  What does "GIVING" look like?
I LOVE how this story begins... "We didn't have much to give them..."  Sometimes, I feel like I don't have anything cool enough to share or give someone else.  Like, there are kids way better than me with way better stuff.  But remember, each one of you are unique and have something special to share.   Watch this video:

What do YOU think was given to the poor people in the car?  An extra basket of apples, right?
Yes...but, the "cool" thing is this dad taught his son was to give those extra apples without it being expected of them - a beautiful gift in itself!
Dad saw a need and, with a Positive Thought (caring), gave a little extra (apples), the Positive Action.  Giving something you have (especially without being asked), gives a Positive Feeling!

YOU can show you care by giving to others!  And, you don't have to be rich to do this.
Think of someone in your class.  What is something you can share with them?  (a smile, invitation to play, etc.)
Think of someone at home.  How can you show you care by giving? (help, make a card, smile...etc.)
Now, think of someone in your community who needs help or looks sad, maybe.  How can you share your gifts?  (smile, hugs, etc...)

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where positive actions start with...

YOU!

Cougars that GIVE can change the world!

Dec. 19, 2018 SHARING on Video Vlog "V"ednesday!

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 19th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they SHARE.  When we recognize and encourage SHARING in our world, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about who illustrates Sharing :

Let's talk about it.  Were you surprised?  Why?

Discuss who showed a Positive Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to SHARE. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Hott wants you to do a Positive Action too!  Try it!

Congratulations to Mr. Eric!  We "Gotcha Being PAWsitive!" and your name has been added to the WSIS PAW CRAWL!
Rhaina nominated Mr. Eric because she noticed him always
helping in the Cafeteria!  We LOVE you!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care
about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 18th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott where we will get to meet some friends who work in the heart of Warm Springs Intermediate School, the School Office!  Ms. Tammy and Ms. Malinda share what inspires them to come to school every day!  Discover true teamwork at its' best from the very school secretaries that keep the heart of our school beating!

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"Who is your favorite pizza topping?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite pizza topping is, I want you to also include WHY it is your favorite.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite pizza topping is, well...only the best ever pizza topping there is, of course.... PEPPERONI! Pepperoni is my absolute favorite pizza topping because, even though I will eat other things on my pizza (with the exception of anchovies because that is just gross in my book), a good 'ole pepperoni pizza is simple and delicious.  Look at this:

Yum!  Nothing beats a Food Lion special Tombstone Pizza, right?  And for $3.99 - you can't beat the price either!  I do love to go out for pizza sometimes too.  What is your favorite place to go out for pizza?  Have you ever been here?

This Maria's in Berkeley Springs!  I just had their new hand tossed pizza the other day.  Pepperoni, of course!  And, it was really good!
Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite pizza topping is and why!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, Ms. Kline, or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 14th! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Mr. Weston McKusker!

I'm sure you ALL have been out to Food Lion!  Well, Weston is the Stock Clerk of Food Lion Berkeley Springs...he's the guy you see making sure the shelves are fully stocked!  (And ready for me to do my grocery shopping!  I see him there all.the.time! Do you?)

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott:

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?
(Share answers with each other.)
4)  Finally, YOU can do a POSITIVE ACTION today! Show someone you care with a something as simple as a smile! Motivation on Dec. 13, 2018 - Raise the Roof....

...on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 13th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

MOTIVATION

Tell your teacher what you think the word "MOTIVATION" means.
"the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way"
"general desire or willingness of someone to do something"

MOTIVATION.  What does "motivation" looks like?  If we look with positive hearts, we may discover that with MOTIVATION, we can ACHIEVE our goals!  Achievement Motivation is when students strive to do well in school and life.  Watch this video:

This video was intended to reach out to all of us who are not so athletically minded. Mrs. Hott was never very motivated at sports either!

No matter what your talent is, it is important and worth developing. For adults, parents and mentors, it's important to help young people search for that particular ability, which may not be so obvious at first. But, with the support of friends, classmates, teachers, and families, we can begin with a "positive thought" and try new things.

It is always ok to try! I love how this mom keeps on offering opportunities for her son.  And, when he expresses his appreciation, my mom heart melts!

Think of someone who helps you.  Who "MOTIVATES" you to try things?  Today, be sure to express appreciation for their continued effort to support all your success -- and failures too!

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where great MOTIVATION starts with...

YOU!

Cougars that use MOTIVATION

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 12th!!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.

Today's video takes a look at a students (and adults) who are positive when they act with GRATITUDE.  What does that mean?  Gratitude is expressing thanks to someone.  When we use GRATITUDE, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about who is showing gratitude:

Let's talk about it.  Were you surprised?  Why?

Discuss which student showed a Positive Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Talkin' Tuesdays - Dec. 11, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

11th!!

Hott where we will get to meet Ms. Kidwell, 5th grade classroom teacher from our Warm Springs Intermediate school family:

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"Who is your favorite sports team?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided who your favorite sports team is, I want you to also include WHY they are your favorite.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite sports team is Pittsburgh Steelers! Even though I really don't watch football other than the half time shows, the Steelers are my favorite because my great-nephew, Nathaniel LOVES the Steelers!

When Nathaniel was a baby, he would sing "black and yellow" all day long!  It was the cutest thing ever.  But not as cute as this video...Check it out:

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite sports and why!

Welcome Back to Rylee!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 7th! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Mr. Terry Wilson!

I'm sure you ALL have been out to Food Lion!  Well, Mr. Wilson is the Floor Manager of Food Lion Berkeley Springs...he's the guy wearing a tie every day!  (I see him there all.the.time!

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

(close with Golden Rule and sing along when ready!)
