Community Cougars that CARE!!! - Sept. 28, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 28th!! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Ms. Joann King! Ms. King works in our Tax Office, at the Morgan County Courthouse!  Maybe some of you have been there with your parents when they went to pay taxes?  Ms. King meets many citizens of Morgan County.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott:

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

HEALTHY HABITS....Raising the Roof

on student assets!

Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 27th! As we continue our Cougar Crawl around Warm Springs Intermediate School, today we will take a look at raising student assets and super important positive action:

HEALTHY HABITS

Tell your teacher what you think the words "HEALTHY HABITS" means.
* "having regular actions that are conducive to a sound body and mind"
* "ways that help us to be free from disease or illness"
* "having positive choices on a regular basis that promote wellness"

Having healthy habits.  What does that look like?    Watch today's video...

I'm not too sure what that yellow walking "go, go, go" thing was!  Any ideas?  Maybe a banana?  Hmmmm...but let's talk about Healthy Habits; because Positive Actions want us all to be happy, healthy, and successful.  Now, let's talk!

This video focuses on three areas that are important for Healthy Habits.  Can you tell your teacher what they were and what you noticed in this video?
food
hygene
sport/exercise
Now, let's answer these questions:
1)  Who had a positive thought?

2)  Which person did a positive action?

3)  Who has positive feelings at the end of this video?

4)  What Healthy Habits do you have?

5)  What Healthy Habits can you improve on?

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Sept. 26th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they RESPECT others.  We will talk about respect throughout the year.  When we use respect, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about which students illustrate positive ways to RESPECT friends:

Let's talk about it.

Discuss which student showed a Positive Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to RESPECT you. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Hott wants you to do a Positive Action too!

Talkin' Tuesday - Sept. 25, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care
about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 25th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott where we will get to meet Ms. Fox, a 3rd grade teacher from our Warm Springs Intermediate family....LOOK!  Our shirts match!:

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Hott wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"What is your favorite season?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite season is, I want you to also include WHY you like that season.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite season is summer  because I LOVE when all my family comes to visit me in the summer.  Look!....Here we are (or, well some of us):

Here is another reason I LOVE summer...watch this!

(Note to teacher: In the event that this video is filtered from the state, try going to this link just in case:  FROZEN: Summer! {And, let me know what works as it will help me understand the new filters better.})

"In Summer!"  (Did you hear me singing along?)

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite season and why!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, Mr. Elias, or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

Makin Music Monday - Sept. 24, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Welcome to Positive Actions Community Character Vlogs!  Today is Monday, September 24th.  Mrs. Hott is SUPER excited to share Positive Actions with Morgan County students because today, and each Monday, we will be having "Makin' Music Mondays!"

Did YOU know that "the way we think about ourselves controls how happy, healthy, and successful we will be"?  In Positive Actions this year, we will discover that we each have beautiful, unique characteristics that are all important and valuable to our Cougar Community here at school, and at home.

In our Positive Actions classroom time in the Cougar Den for this week, we will be answering the question "Am I UNIQUE?" while discovering our self concepts.

Also this week, we will talk about the positive values "RESPECT and  HEALTHY HABITS" for our Community Cougars that Care!

Now, once again on Making Music Monday, it is time to review our very own Positive Action song.  For today, meet some friends from the Morgan County Partnership! Try to sing along...and please, sing louder than Mrs. Hott!

MR. CABLE'S COUGAR CREED

(chorus)
I can be kind
And caring too
For others and for me
It’s the right thing to do
I know that my home, school, and community
Have people who care about me

I know I am unique
There’s only one like me
Filled with valuable qualities
I’m made wonderfully
(chorus)

When I get up for school
I think of that Golden Rule
Treating others just and fair
Will show students I care

Be nice, be kind, be strong
We all want to get along
To make today the best
To all, I show respect
(chorus)

Positive Actions, I will choose
Helping others and my school
Get us all to reach our goals
With safe, responsible roles

We are all Cougars that Care
At school, at home, and play
Students can change the world
Beginning with today
(chorus)

Yay!  Thanks for listening!  And, if time today, play again and try to sing along!  Your teacher may have an instrument to share from Black Cat that looks a little like this?

Begin every day with a PAWsitive thought:

Get Ready for a POSITIVE school week...filled with students who show RESPECT and HEALTHY HABITS!

Cougars that RESPECT others
can change the world!

On your feet, push in your chair, find a safe space, it's time to sing the Positive Action Song!

EQUALITY on Sept 20, 2018 - Raising the Roof....

....on student assets!

Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 20th! As we continue our Cougar Crawl around Warm Springs Intermediate School, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

EQUALITY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "EQUALITY" means.
* "social fairness or justice"
* "state of being the same"
* "every person has the same value"
"Equality is the idea that all people are equal, regardless of age, gender, orientation, ethnicity, race, disability, or religious background."

Having equality.  What does that mean?   Watch today's video and listen to some students talk about "equality"...

Now, let's talk!  Let's all answer those questions too!
1)  What is equality?

2)  Should all people be equal?

3)  What should happen to people who don't treat others equally?

4)  Do you think that a "bully" feels equal to other students?  Why do you think a bully is a bully?

5)  If you see a bully, what can you do or say?

Take a look at the billboard below.  What do you think it means?

REACHING OUT - Value Video for Sept. 19, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Sept. 19th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video "V"ednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they REACH OUT to be kind.  When we reach out, or make an effort to be positive to another person with kindness, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about which students illustrate positive ways to REACH OUT:

Let's talk about it.

Discuss which student showed a Positive Thought?

Which students showed a Negative Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to REACH OUT to you. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Hott wants you to do a Positive Action too!  If each one of us at school did just one Positive Action, we would reach out to 400 other people in Morgan County!  So, how can YOU reach out to someone today.

I want each of you to think of someone YOU want to reach out to.  Know who it is?  A friend, parent, someone sad on the bus? Raise your hand when you have thought of someone to reach out to today.

Now, what can YOU do to reach out?  REACHING OUT is "to offer help or assistance" to another person. Maybe you can smile at someone!  Or, maybe you can help a friend with homework; read a book to your sibling; help mom with dishes tonight; or even send supplies to students in Texas and Florida that who lost homes from the storm!  What will you do today?

Go do it!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 18th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

NEWS FLASH**NEWS FLASH**NEWS FLASH
Mrs. Hott interrupts our regularly scheduled vlogcast to bring you our first ever GOTCHA BEING PAWSITIVE video for "Talkin Tuesday"!  Get ready to see our school family share something UNIQUE about themselves!  "Quiet on the Cougar Set, Ready, Camera, and......ACTION!"

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Cutie the Cougar where we will get to meet Ms. Myers, a 4th grade teacher from our Warm Springs Intermediate family:

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"What is your favorite dessert?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite dessert is, I want you to also include WHY you like that that dessert.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite dessert is warm CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES because (oh my goodness,...let's see...) my favorite dessert is warm chocolate chip cookies because I love to bake cookies.  When I make them, I just love the way it makes the whole house smell good!  It reminds me of every holiday when we make oodles of cookies to share with family.

But, want to know a secret?  Sometimes, well, a lot actually...I manage to burn a batch of cookies!  Really, I do!  Want to see?

So, what do you guys think?  Look tasty?  Well actually, what you see here even the dog wouldn't eat.  But Isaac had fun tossing them off the porch!
Check these out! (above)  These were supposedly peanut butter.  Not quite as bad, even my Dan ate these!  (or...maybe he was just really hungry!)

Even though I have managed to nearly burn my house down on several occassions, when I get a batch of chocolate chip done just right, ooooooh....let me tell you.... they will melt in your mouth!

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite dessert and why!

And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, or Mrs. Hott by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

PURPOSE for Sept. 13, 2018 - Raising the Roof....

on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Sept. 13th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

PURPOSE

Tell your teacher what you think the word "PURPOSE" means.
"the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists"

Purpose.  What does "purpose" look like?  Watch this video:

This stirring anthem from Garth Brooks combined with poignant images from around our planet encourages, inspires and challenges each one of us to get involved with people’s needs both close to home and around the world. “Do Your Part” is a personal appeal to make a difference in our communities at a time of great need, which is also a time of opportunity.

Each student in this school is unique, right?  That means that each one of YOU have a unique PURPOSE for your life.  And, by participating in Positive Actions, it helps us all to discover those positive thoughts, which leads to actions, and good feelings about why we are here and at school!

Think about a positive PURPOSE you have here at school and share this with your teacher. (to try our best, to help others) How can you "do your part" to have a great Community of Cougars?

Now, think about a positive PURPOSE for you when you are home with your family.  Do you help mom?  Care for pets?  How can you "do your part" to have positive feelings at home?

Finally, think about this:  What do I need to do in school to help me with whatever my PURPOSE is in the future?  (study, do homework, get along with others, follow the Cougar Ways....)

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we all have positive PURPOSE for...

YOU!

Cougars that "Do their Part" with a positive PURPOSE can change the world!

Value Vlog Vednesdays - Encouragement, Sept. 12, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 12th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring cougar community of students at Warm Springs Intermediate School.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they practice ENCOURAGEMENT.  When we ENCOURAGE others, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.  And, we also have positive feelings when we are receiving ENCOURAGEMENT.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about who illustrates encouragement:

Let's talk about it.  Were you surprised?  Why?

Discuss which person showed a Positive Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

Did you hear some words of encouragement?  What were they? (Don't stop, keep going,...)

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to encourage you. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Hott wants you to do a Positive Action too!
Encourage each other!

And remember this....

Talkin' Tuesdays - Sept. 11, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 11th!!

Hott where we will get to take a Cougar Crawl at our recent PBIS Tailgate Party with the Warm Springs Intermediate family:

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

So, for our first "Talk It Out," we will start with something easy...I want you all to carefully think and answer this really supper hard question.  Are you ready?

"What is your favorite color?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite color is, I want you to also include WHY you like that color.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Hott.  My favorite color is ORANGE because (oh my goodness, I LOVE orange...let's see...) my favorite color is orange because it reminds me of the sky at sunset.  Behind my house, our sky lights up in many mixtures of yellow, red, and orange.  Here is what it looks like:
Orange sky behind Mrs. Hott's House

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite color and why!

In your Positive Action folder (coming to you via the Cougar Den THIS week), you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page with additional journal pages.  Here, we can write things down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, school counselor, or Mrs.

YOU!

(Note to teachers:  Since today is 9/11, here is a picture that may help students feel a sense of patriotism.  Please talk with children as you feel appropriate for their needs, always encouraging that our community strives for their safety every day.)

Makin' Music Mondays - Sept. 10, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Welcome to Positive Actions Community Character Vlogs!  Today is Monday, September 10th.  Mrs. Hott is SUPER excited to share Positive Actions with Morgan County students because today, and each Monday, we will be having "Makin' Music Mondays!"  with a great school song called ...  (drum roll.....)

MR. CABLE'S COUGAR CREED

Did YOU know that "the way we think about ourselves controls how happy, healthy, and successful we will be"?  In Positive Actions this year, we will discover that we each have beautiful, unique characteristics that are all important and valuable to our Cougar Community here at school, and at home.

In our Positive Actions classroom time in the Cougar Den for this week, we will be talking about what it means to do Positive Actions, and how beginning with and sharing positive thoughts with others can cause good (or positive!) things to happen.

For today, we begin with Mrs. Hott's demo song for you called... (drum roll....are you ready?....)....

MR. CABLE'S COUGAR CREED

Bear with me, ok?  As you know, Mrs. Hott is not the best singer around, but we will sure have fun AND get to hear beautiful core values to help us be a Cougar Community.  Each Makin' Music Monday, your class will watch a vlog with "Mr. Cable's Cougar Creed" beginning today with just Mrs. Hott and Levi where we will get to learn the words.  Then, as the year progresses, you will see various community groups around Morgan  County joining us all in our chorus.

So.... keep watching and see if maybe YOU recognize someone as the year goes by.  But, for today, well, it all begins from my home, to yours, with the demo song with Mrs. Hott and her son, Levi, helping out.  Check it out here:

Yay!  Thanks for listening!  And, if time today, play again and try to sing along....

Begin every day with Positive Actions:

Community Cougars...that CARE! Sept. 7, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Warm Springs Intermediate School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 7th!! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!  Meet Mr. Bill Harmison! He is an attorney in Berkeley Springs and guess what?  He is also married to WSIS former music teacher and often a substitute teacher here, Mrs. Harmison!

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott:

Want to know something pretty positive?  Even though Mr. Harmison did not like school many years ago, he continued to work hard and even went to school many more years to become a lawyer to help our community.  He is also being POSITIVE by being HONEST with us!

Maybe some of you feel that there are times when you don't like school either?  Is that so?  Well.... some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!  Just like Mr. Harmison!

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

(close with Golden Rule and sing along when ready!)

HONESTY! Sept. 6, 2018, Raise the Roof....

on student assets!

Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, September 6th! As we continue our Cougar Crawl around Warm Springs Intermediate School, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

HONESTY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "HONESTY" means.
* "a quality of being honest, upright, and fair"
* "honorable in intentions, principles, and actions"
* "truthfulness, sincere, frank"
* "freedom from deceit or fraud"

Be honest.  Honesty.  Watch today's video...

Now, let's talk!  First, tell your teacher what happened in this video. Then, answer these questions:
1)  Who was being "negative"?

2)  What student had a positive thought?

3)  Which student did a positive action?

4)  Who has positive feelings at the end of this video?

5)  Why?

Remember, HONESTY shows RESPECT for not only others, but yourself too!  When you are HONEST, you will earn RESPECT from your teachers, classmates, and friends.  What do you think that means?   Which student do you think the teacher respects?
(initiate discussion that we want to have friends that respect our positive actions, not behavior that get's us in trouble or is negative)
TODAY IS THE TAILGATE PARTY!!! HOPE YOU CAN COME TOO!
